The National Celebrations Planning Committee (NCPC) has unveiled a scaled-down plan for Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations, set for March 6, 2025, under the theme “Reflect, Review, Reset.”
The big day will be marked with a parade at the Jubilee House forecourt, featuring cultural performances, poetry recitals, and a gathering of top dignitaries, chiefs, and religious leaders. But before that, a series of events will set the tone.
First up, on February 28, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at Nationalism Park, paying tribute to the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident—one of the turning points in Ghana’s fight for independence. The event will be live-streamed on all major media platforms, with an educational campaign rolling out on TV, radio, and social media.
In a modern twist, an X-Space debate titled “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana” will spark heated conversations about activism—past and present.
Other highlights include:
📌 March 2 – National quiz final
📌 March 4 – Debate competition
📌 March 5 – President’s School Children Awards
Government says the low-key celebrations are a cost-cutting measure, but insists the spirit of independence won’t be lost.
Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu is calling on the media and bloggers to help push the celebrations and keep the national pride alive.
