Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno will continue to lead the Ghana Police Service for another two years, a move welcomed by the Concerned Krobo Youth Group, who have described the extension as “well-deserved” and a recognition of his exceptional service.

In a statement released on Tuesday, November 26, the youth group expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the Police Council for their decision, saying it reflects the IGP’s “unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order in Ghana.”

“Throughout his career, IGP Yohuno has held key positions, including Divisional Commander for Accra Central, Accra Regional Operations Commander, Deputy Accra Regional Commander, and Director-General of the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD),” the statement said. “His exceptional service has earned him numerous awards, including the Grand Medal for his meritorious service in combating armed robbery and other criminal activities.”

The youth group, representing voices from the Ga-Adangme community, added that the extension is a fitting recognition of IGP Yohuno’s capability and determination. “As IGP, he continues to demonstrate exceptional leadership, and his continued service will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the Ghana Police Service,” the statement noted.

Yakubu Ibrahim, the group’s conveyor, told the Daily Mail, “IGP Yohuno’s leadership has been exemplary at every level of his career. This extension is not just a personal achievement; it is a boost for national security and public confidence in the police service.”

Moses Tettey Dometey, Secretary of the group, added, “On behalf of the Ga-Adangme people and all Ghanaians, we congratulate IGP Yohuno. His dedication and professionalism set a benchmark for policing in the country.”

IGP Yohuno, who has risen through the ranks over decades, is widely credited with strengthening law enforcement strategies, particularly in crime prevention and traffic management. Analysts say his continued tenure promises stability and strategic continuity within the Ghana Police Service.

The two-year extension comes at a critical time as the police service continues to tackle rising security challenges across the country, and the government signals its confidence in IGP Yohuno’s leadership.
