The Nchumuru Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joseph Kwame Danso Asiam, has put the blame for his woes on Joshua Makubu, the Regional Secretary of Oti Region.
The embattled Chairman has blasted his Regional Secretary, Josh ua Makubu over his step aside directive, accusing him of usurping powers he (Joshua) does not have.
The Regional Secretary had written to notify the Nchumuru Constituency Chairman, (Joseph Kwame Danso Asiam) of the Oti Regional Executive Committee’s decision to ask him to step aside as Chairman of Nchumuru Constituency of the NPP with immediate effect, pending investigation and further action by the Disciplinary Committee and the Regional Executive Committee.
According to the letter communicating the decision by the Regional Executive Committee (REC), Danso Asiam is suspended for alleged gross misconduct and insubordination.
“In the interim, you are hereby directed to hand over the party office and its affairs to the First Vice Chairman of the Constituency.” The letter concluded.
Responding to the Regional Executive Committee, the embattled Chairman described the order as illegality that will not stand the test of time.
Danso Asiam also advised the Oti Regional Secretary to be mindful and tread cautiously and avoid needless interference which breeds hatred and ego but is inimical to the progress of the party in my constituency.
‘I advise that you tread cautiously and avoid needless interference which breeds hatred and ego but is inimical to the progress of the party in my constituency’. The embattled Chairman warned
According to Joseph Kwame Danso, “Secretary Joshua arrogates to himself the strength he does not have going by the dictates of the Party’s Constitution.
He argued that the Secretary grievously erred both in law and by structural arrangements of the New Patriotic Party because he is not clothed with the powers to write to suspend even a polling station officer, not to talk of a constituency officer.
‘Mr. Secretary, you grievously erred, in that, the constitution and structural arrangements of the New Patriotic Party does not in any way clothed you or any group of persons with any disciplinary or quasi-judicial function or authority to single-handedly write to suspend even a polling station officer, not to talk of a constituency officer and in the instant matter, a constituency chairman without recourse to the Regional Executive Committee (REC) upon its resolution subject to the composition of working committees at a properly constituted meeting’. He averred.
Danso also accused Joshua of destroying NPP in the Nchumuru Constituency. ‘I advised you to avoid needless interference which breeds hatred and ego but is inimical to the progress of the party in my constituency’.
He described his ordeal as the height of the disobedience of the rule of law, which should be the major driver in a democracy.
While insisting that he remains the Nchumuru Constituency Chairman of NPP, he described the decision to sack him as arbitrary and nonexistent, saying the letter suspending him is disregarded as otiose, void and of no legal effect.
‘Consequently, having regards to the breach of laid down procedures and your arrogation of powers that are vested in the Regional Executive Committee, I am unable to comply with your directives to step aside. Respectfully you cannot grossly despise the constitution of the NPP and arbitrarily arrogate nonexistent powers onto yourself and to that extent; your letter is disregarded as otiose, void and of no legal effect. You may respectfully consider Article 9 of the party’s constitution for guidance’, Danso indicated.
