The political crisis within the New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region appears set for a temporary solution after the gladiators involved smoked a peace pipe at a meeting held in Kumasi.
The meeting, convened by Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboao, Chief of Agriculture Nzema, was attended by notable figures including Energy Minister and Manhyia South Lawmaker, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO, Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi-Bosiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, and Ashanti Regional Women Organizer, Nana Ama Amponsah, alongside a select few political actors from the region.
There has been widespread speculation that Chairman Wontumi, known for his close ties to the Akufo-Addo administration, may not be supportive of the running mate bid of the Manhyia South Legislator. This perceived lack of support has contributed to the tense political atmosphere in the region.
While Chairman Wontumi and NAPO have resolved their differences, their supporters remain embroiled in a futile social media spat.
Additionally, our investigations reveal that the feud between these two political heavyweights extends beyond the Ashanti Regional Chairmanship contest, with rumors suggesting NAPO’s alleged funding of COKA against Bernard Antwi-Bosiako as a contributing factor.
For Chairman Wontumi’s camp to throw their support behind Mathew Opoku-Prempeh’s bid for running mate, there’s a condition: Opoku-Prempeh must be ready to reimburse, if not fully offset, the expenses incurred by Wontumi during the regional chairmanship contest.
This request and resolution were also endorsed by Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh in the presence of Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboao of Agriculture Nzema.
Chairman Wontumi, the NPP chairperson in the Ashanti Region, has been tasked with reversing a spell at the Antoa Nyama deity as directed by the Kumasi Traditional Council.
The former Bosomtwe Constituency Chairman was accused of disrespecting the sole occupant of the golden stool, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, an allegation vehemently denied by Wontumi. In a bid to prove his innocence, the Governor cast a spell on Otumfuo’s Kokosohehe, Nana Kwasi Duah.
Bantamahene Bafour Akoto, presiding in the absence of Osei Tutu II, dismissed the case brought before the Kumasi Traditional Council after Chairman Wontumi’s denial, without inviting witnesses. He directed Wontumi to take steps to reverse the spell placed on the head of Kokosohene.
Shockingly, the Antoa deity rejected the call to reverse the spell, citing inconclusive proceedings by the Kumasi Traditional Council. Consequently, the deity requested the duo to return to the council for a conclusive retrial.
While awaiting the reconvening of the Kumasi Traditional Council for the retrial, Chairman Wontumi and NAPO have met behind closed doors to reconcile.
