In a stunning turn of events, Francis Asenso-Boakye, a close associate of President Akufo-Addo, has emerged triumphant in the parliamentary primary election for the Bantama constituency, dealing a humiliating blow to his outspoken opponents, Ralph Kwame Agyapong and Kennedy Kwame Agyapong.

As the former deputy chief of staff and current Works and Housing minister sought re-election for a second term, he faced fierce competition from Ralph Agyapong, a vocal contender known for his provocative remarks, and his elder brother, Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent legislator.

The election results painted a stark picture of Asenso-Boakye’s dominance, securing an impressive 650 votes, while the Agyapong brothers lagged far behind with a combined total of only 130 votes. Despite their campaign efforts, including explicit goals from Kennedy Agyapong to orchestrate Asenso-Boakye’s defeat, the outcome highlighted the minister’s widespread support among Bantama delegates.

The rivalry escalated when allegations surfaced that Asenso-Boakye had made disparaging remarks about Kennedy Agyapong’s character during a radio interview. Kennedy, visibly offended, vowed to ensure Asenso-Boakye’s defeat in retaliation for the perceived attack.

Asenso-Boakye, however, denied the accusations, dismissing them as baseless campaign tactics. The tensions reached a boiling point as Kennedy Agyapong threatened to reveal damaging information about Asenso-Boakye and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if Bantama delegates did not reject him.

In a heated engagement with Bantama delegates, Kennedy Agyapong unleashed unsubstantiated claims against the minister, framing them as a necessary expose for the party’s benefit. Asenso-Boakye maintained his innocence, categorizing the accusations as mere campaign strategies devoid of truth.

The resounding victory for Asenso-Boakye not only secures his position in the Bantama constituency but also deals a significant blow to the Agyapong brothers, marking a notable chapter in the political landscape of the New Patriotic Party.
