The candidacy of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received an unalloyed boost over the weekend as Members of Parliament of the Ashanti Regional launched their support for the “aspiration” of the Vice President of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to succeed President Akufo-Addo.
A surging crowd of Members of Parliament thronged the Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia at the entrance to the Heroes’ Park, forcing him to accede to the offer from the Ashanti Regional Members of Parliament to usher him into conference.
The Digital Vice President received praise from delegates at the venue who chanted ‘Best to lead; next to lead’ on his arrival.
The organizers were wrong to think that the Vice President would escape the celebration of his contribution to the New Patriotic Party while in Conference with their Code of Conduct and directives on posters and billboards of perceived presidential aspirants.
Dr. Bawumia never knew that a surprise package was waiting for him on Sunday, December 19 at Conference grounds, until the Ashanti Regional Members of Parliament who followed him to the venue surprisingly started chanting ‘Best to lead; next to lead to chagrin of Alan supporters.
Though this delayed his entry, it turned out to be a triumphal entry for the Vice President as he was led to his seat.
As if the actions of the Ashanti Regional Members of Parliament were not loud enough, there was near chaos at mentioning of Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to address the Conference.
Delegates artlessly occupied the front of the dais while chanting the name of the Vice President.
The number of delegates who had occupied the space kept soaring and security personnel, as well as the MCs, had a difficult time controlling them and getting them to return to their seats.
The Vice President himself was left stunned by the spontaneous reaction, as he was unable to begin his address due to the cacophonous cheers by the delegates.
As it proved extremely difficult to control the massive show of support, Dr Bawumia himself intervened by pleading with the delegates to resume their seats.
However, they ignored the cheers of the man they were cheering for and kept on chanting his name.
The Vice President also called on the party faithful to unite, as the government took decisive steps to get the country out of the effects of Covid-19, which had ravaged economies globally.
The spontaneous show of love and support demonstrated towards Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the National Delegates Conference in Kumasi, without doubt, is an indication of his growing status as the party’s leading contender to succeed President Akufo-Addo as the party’s leader and flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
The Ashanti Region is supposed to be Trade Minister Kyeremanten’s backyard, and for that reason, his major support hub.
Unfortunately, Dr. Bawumia seems to be whipping him in all major party programs with respect strategic organization and mobilization.
While Bawumia was receiving cheers and accolades from party functionaries, Alan Kyeremanten was busily engaged in health walk dubbed 1000 walk with Alan.
