A 20-year-old unemployed man, Kwadwo Opoku, has been sentenced to 30 years in hard labour for robbery. Court prosecutor ASP Newlove Adjei told the court presided over by H/H Fred Obekyere, Esq., that on 23/02/2023 at 12:00 am, a first-year student of AAMUSTED left home to proceed to lectures and, upon reaching the Sofoline interchange, met Kwadwo Opoku coming from the opposite direction.
Kwadwo Opoku, upon seeing the student walking alone, ordered her to surrender all her belongings to him. The student pleaded with Kwadwo to spare her since she was a student and had no money with her, but Kwadwo turned a deaf ear to her plea, rushed at her, and forcefully snatched her school bag containing a lady’s watch, exercise book, textbook, and a phone charger, all valued at GH 700.00, before taking to his heels.
Kwadwo Opoku was given a hot chase by neighbours who heard the student shouting for help, and he was subsequently arrested. The school bag was taken from him and sent to the Suntreso police.
Although he pleaded not guilty before the court, after several investigations, he was found guilty and sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment in hard labour.”
