The Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku, has delivered a package of 1,500 LED bulbs, 1,000 mosquito repellents, 20 streetlights, and five desktop computers to five Senior High Schools (SHSs) in his constituency.
The beneficiary schools include University Practice Senior High School (UPSHS), Wesley Girls’ Senior High School (WGSHS), Academy of Christ the King SHS, Efutu Senior High School, and Cape Coast Technical Institute.
The donation initiative, which commenced at UPSHS on Tuesday, saw each school receive 300 LED bulbs, four streetlights, one desktop computer, and 200 mosquito repellents.
Dr Nyarku, popularly known as “Ragga,” said the gesture followed a recent familiarisation tour of schools in his constituency, during which he observed inadequate lighting in classrooms and around school compounds.
“I decided to provide streetlights and bulbs to all SHSs in my constituency. I also donated computers to support administrative work and repellents to protect students from mosquito bites and aid their learning,” he said.
The MP indicated plans to extend similar support to schools in neighbouring Cape Coast South, noting that he had already donated 500 LED bulbs to Adisadel College. He pledged to replicate the initiative at St. Augustine’s College and Holy Child SHS in the coming weeks.
“This is because we are all in Cape Coast, and everyone must be involved,” he explained.
On the issue of schools lacking boarding facilities, Dr Nyarku said he had heard appeals from headteachers and would explore ways to assist them in securing the necessary infrastructure to support teaching and learning.
Representatives from the beneficiary schools expressed gratitude for the MP’s contributions and wished him continued success.
