• President Extends His Tenure to Continue Reforms

The Presidency has confirmed that President John Dramani Mahama has approved the re-engagement of Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Ghana’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for an additional two years, following his statutory retirement in December 2025.

In an official letter dated 25 November 2025, addressed to the IGP and signed by Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama, the President’s decision was described as being taken in line with the recommendations of the Police Council and the provisions governing the administration of the Ghana Police Service.

The re-engagement, which takes effect from 28 December 2025, will see IGP Yohuno continue in his current role, overseeing operations, reforms, and the strategic direction of the national police service. The letter emphasises that his continued leadership is “essential to sustaining ongoing reforms, strengthening operational effectiveness, and ensuring stability within the Ghana Police Service at this critical period.”

The Presidency has requested that IGP Yohuno indicate his acceptance of the re-engagement in writing within three days of receiving the letter. Copies of the communication have also been sent to the Vice President, the Chief of Staff, and the Minister of the Interior.

This move comes at a time when the Ghana Police Service has been implementing a series of reforms aimed at improving operational efficiency, accountability, and public confidence. Analysts note that continuity in leadership at the top of the service is likely intended to consolidate these reforms and ensure a smooth transition through the upcoming policing challenges.
