Kennedy Ohene Agyapong

Self-packaged fearless richest member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has provided clarification regarding his widely publicized “excuse me, strategist” comment, which was initially interpreted as a pointed dig at Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia amidst his bid for the NPP’s flagbearership.
Agyapong firmly stated that his criticism was not aimed at the Vice President but rather at another NPP MP who had made remarks he perceived as criticizing his contributions to the party. According to him, the said MP had expressed the view that the NPP required a strategist, not someone who merely made monetary or logistical contributions. In response, Agyapong intended to remind the MP that being a strategist did not seem to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, considering the depreciating value of the Cedi and other unfavourable economic indicators.
During an interview with Home Radio, Agyapong defended his stance, stating that his intention was not to attack the Vice President but to address the MP’s views on strategic leadership. He highlighted instances where the MP had made statements about avoiding the IMF, only to resort to seeking assistance from the IMF within a short period, questioning the MP’s claims of being a strategist.
Blaming the media for distorting his words to create sensational news, Agyapong expressed his frustration at how his advice to the party to avoid provocative campaigning was not accurately reported. He criticized the media for cherry-picking certain statements without providing the full context of his remarks.
Kennedy Agyapong is among the ten aspirants competing for the NPP’s flagbearership position. He is seen as a strong contender, alongside Alan Kyeremanten and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Various polls have indicated Vice President Dr Bawumia as the frontrunner as the NPP gears up for the 2024 General Elections.
