Renowned Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah, fondly known as Lilwin, proudly announced that all tickets for the premiere of his new movie The Country Called Ghana* in Kumasi on Saturday, May 25, 2024, had been sold out before the event.
Among the notable supporters is former President and flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, who purchased 200 tickets, each priced at 500 cedis, contributing a generous 100,000 cedis.
Lilwin revealed this during a pre-premiere interview with Kumasi blogger Poleeno. He expressed confidence in the success of his movie, emphasizing that he was not worried about the premiere due to the overwhelming support he had already received.
In addition to Mahama’s substantial purchase, other prominent figures also showed their support. Nick Abiam of Ghana Link bought 1,000 t-shirts, totaling 500,000 cedis. Tabea, a well-known brand, purchased 500 shirts, and Twum Barimah acquired another 500 t-shirts. Dr. Time Daaso also contributed significantly to the event’s success.
Lilwin explained that the financial success from the sale of tickets and souvenirs had already been secured, and his primary goal now was to elevate the Ghanaian movie industry and maintain his relevance within it. “I have already made money from the sale of tickets and souvenirs,” he said. “My interest is to add value to the movie industry and keep my name relevant.”
The premiere of The Country Called Ghana promises to be a landmark event, highlighting his potential and relevance within the Ghanaian film industry.
“This is a festival. We are not going to repeat it. We are showing it once,” he revealed.
According to him, he intends to give copies to Chief Executive Officers, Directors, and Managers of institutions who request them.
Kwadwo Nkansah is one of the Kumawood actors who has starred in movies critical of the governance and administration during the tenure of John Dramani Mahama as president.
Social media reaction is divided on the former President’s gesture. While some applaud his forgiving heart, others question why he would invest so much in a young man who used his talent against him.
