These headlines convey the main point of the story, which is President Mahama’s directive to allocate funds for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence project to prevent future flooding in coastal communities.
President John Dramani Mahama has wasted no time in responding to the devastating tidal waves that have displaced hundreds in Salakope, Amutinu, and Agavedzi. During a visit to Agavedzi on Thursday, March 6, he directed the Finance Minister to immediately allocate funds for the second phase of the Blekusu Sea Defence project to prevent future disasters.
Speaking to distressed residents, Mahama assured them of swift action: “I am going to ask the Finance Minister to include funding to start phase two of the Blekusu Sea Defence project.”
Beyond constructing the defence wall, Mahama also pledged a comprehensive resettlement plan for affected families. “There are two things we need to do: start the building of phase two of the defence wall, but at the same time, resettle those whose houses have been affected. So, we will look for a more suitable site for the resettlement project,” he stated.
With this bold intervention, Mahama is proving once again that his administration prioritizes the welfare of the people over mere rhetoric.
