Farouk Aliu Mahama

After thorough deliberation, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially ratified Farouk Aliu Mahama as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Yendi constituency. This decision, made in accordance with Article 12 of the party constitution, follows a recent meeting held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

The confirmation comes amidst a dispute between supporters of Farouk and his closest rival, with the third National Vice Chairman prematurely declaring him the winner in defiance of election protocols. Abibata Shani, reacting to the declaration, has petitioned the party to review the election process and consider a rerun.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission, led by Jean Mensah, has distanced itself from the premature declaration, citing irregularities and urging the party to reevaluate the constituency’s poll.

Despite these challenges, the party has upheld Farouk Mahama’s candidacy for the 2024 elections. The NEC’s decision was communicated via a press statement issued by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the Party.

As the nation gears up for the 2024 elections, party members and supporters are urged to remain actively involved in the electoral process. The party remains confident that with unity, diligence, and commitment, it will emerge victorious in the upcoming elections, solidifying its position for the future.
