Ahead of the forthcoming District Assembly elections, Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, the former Chairman of the Korle Klottey constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has made a notable contribution by presenting aspiring Assembly Members in the Klottey Korle Municipality with cash and clean-up tools.
At a colourful ceremony organized at Osu and Asylum Down on Monday and Tuesday respectively, Nii Noi Nortey, who is also aspiring to be the NPP 2024 Parliamentary Candidate donated wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels, campaign posters and cash to all eleven (11) aspiring Assembly Members.
The group of eleven aspiring members comprises representatives from various electoral areas, including Osu Doku North, Osu Doku South, Ringway, Kinkawe, and Alata. The remaining areas represented are Adabraka Official Town, Adabraka North, Tudu North, Tudu South, Asylum Down, and Odawnaa Sahara.
In total, approximately one thousand polling station officers were present at both presentation ceremonies. Nii Noi Nortey, addressing the attendees, emphasized the significance of the upcoming District Assembly elections as the initial stride towards securing victory for the ruling party in the 2024 general elections. He expressed concern about internal conflicts and urged the executives to unite and work diligently towards accomplishing this goal.
Nii Noi Nortey highlighted the notion that elections should be seen as a continuous process rather than isolated events. He emphasized the crucial role of the executives in working tirelessly to restore the NPP’s local influence and strength.
“Even though we acknowledge the fact that District Assembly elections are non-partisan on paper, we in the NPP will do ourselves a great disservice if we don’t start canvassing support for aspirants who have shown faith in our party over the years. It will interest you to know that the current NDC Constituency Chairman and NDC Constituency Youth Organizer are the Assembly Member candidates for Osu Doku North and Osu Doku South respectively,” he said.
Emphasizing; “How then does anybody convince me or you that assembly elections are non-partisan?”, he quizzed, adding, “It’s about time you [polling station executives] embarked on a vigorous retail campaign to help our people. Move from home to home, lorry station to lorry station, market centres, football parks, ghettos etc. We need to capture all the eleven (11) electoral seats so that our communities can have a fair share of developmental projects being executed by the Municipal Assembly.”
Nii Noi Nortey reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to peace, unity, and the development of the constituency. He called upon all party officials to reject divisive tendencies, unite, and exert exceptional effort to enhance the appeal of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency, signifying preparedness for the 2024 general elections.
During the ceremony, the Presiding Member of the Klottey Korle Municipal Assembly, Nana Ebo Mensah, expressed concern over the disparity in the number of seats held by pro-NPP Assembly Members compared to the NDC in the constituency. He urged the polling executives to work diligently to bring about a change in this situation. Currently, out of the 11 Electoral Areas, the NDC occupies eight (8) seats while the NPP holds three (3), a situation he described as “unfortunate.”
The ceremony was attended by Klottey Korle Constituency Executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, Polling Station Officers, and staff from the Nii Noi Nortey Foundation, among others.
