Naa Torshie tells delegates everyone will get a job
Former Administrator of the District Assembly Common Fund and prominent figure within the Greater Accra branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has begun a nationwide campaign tour to rally support for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, one of the leading contenders in the party’s upcoming flagbearer election slated for 31 January 2026.
Once seen as a key ally of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and a strong favourite for his running mate position ahead of the 2024 elections, Naa Torshie has now firmly crossed camp, and she is making her new political allegiance clear.
During her latest engagement with party delegates in the Central Region, she praised Mr Agyapong as a leader who would reward loyalty and hard work over bureaucracy and elitism.
“When we are struggling for power, no one requests CVs from the youth or the aged,” she told an auditorium packed with enthusiastic delegates. “But the moment there’s power, they begin to demand CVs. ‘Akompreko’ says, with or without a CV, everybody will be given a job to do.”
Her comments drew loud cheers from the crowd, many of whom echoed her call for inclusivity and fairness in job opportunities under an Agyapong presidency.
According to Naa Torshie, the ‘era of bring-your-CV-for-employment’ would become “a thing of the past” should the Assin Central MP become Ghana’s next president.
“With Kennedy Agyapong as president, whether you have a certificate or not, you’ll be given a job to do,” she declared, urging delegates to back a candidate she described as “a man of the grassroots who understands ordinary people.”
Sources within the campaign say Naa Torshie’s decision to align with Mr Agyapong openly signals a major boost for his camp, particularly in the Greater Accra and Central regions, where she maintains strong networks from her years in public service and party leadership.
Her defection is also likely to shake up internal dynamics ahead of the January contest, as she joins a growing list of influential party figures now rallying around the outspoken lawmaker.
Mr Agyapong, who branded his campaign around discipline, job creation, and self-reliance, has consistently positioned himself as the voice of ordinary Ghanaians within the NPP. His message, that “hard work, not academic privilege,” will drive national progress, appears to have struck a chord among grassroots delegates.
Naa Torshie’s nationwide tour is expected to continue this week in the Western and Ashanti regions, where she is scheduled to meet with constituency executives, polling station organisers, and youth coordinators to consolidate support for Agyapong’s bid.
Party observers say her involvement adds momentum to what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested race, one that could redefine the future direction of the NPP’s leadership.
