Mpraeso’s own Davis Ansah Opoku has slammed the Office of the Special Prosecutor for its bold move to brand former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta a fugitive, calling for a full-scale investigation into alleged corruption. The controversy stems from Ofori-Atta being named a suspect in four high-profile cases – including the National Cathedral Project, the Strategic Mobilization Limited revenue engagement, and two other murky matters.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Wednesday, February 12, Opoku didn’t hold back. He warned that while no one is above the law, the current approach of the OSP raises serious questions about fairness and due process.
“I’m not here to defend anyone the state alleges has done wrong,” Opoku declared. “We, as public officers, are expected to uphold dignity and follow due process. If there’s enough evidence that Ken Ofori-Atta is guilty, then he should face the law – but through a process that respects every Ghanaian’s fundamental rights.”
Opoku further underscored that the rule of law must be paramount, irrespective of political affiliations or public opinion. “We need to ensure that every step taken in this investigation adheres to the proper legal process. This is about fairness, not playing favourites,” he added.
As the drama unfolds, Ghana watches closely, demanding that justice isn’t compromised by rushed labels or political theatrics. Stay tuned as this saga continues to heat up in the corridors of power!
