Nana Akufo-Addo and Daughters
A group of concerned citizens, under the banner of the Alliance for Youth Development and National Progress (AFRC), have issued a call to President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, to relocate from his family residence by October 29, 2023. The group’s primary objective is to set a positive example for the youth and foster independence and self-reliance among them.
In a statement released on October 22, 2023, AFRC emphasised the importance of the President’s decision to move out of his father’s house as a symbolic gesture that could have a far-reaching impact on the nation’s youth. The group believes that the President’s continued presence at his family residence, given his age and position, does not provide an ideal role model for the younger generation.
Prince K. Agyemang-Duah, the General Secretary of AFRC, expressed the organisation’s strong desire to inspire and motivate the youth of Ghana. He explained, “Our goal is to encourage a sense of independence and self-reliance among the youth, and we believe this symbolic act would go a long way in achieving that.”
AFRC’s call is rooted in the belief that leaders’ actions significantly influence the behaviours and aspirations of the country’s youth. By choosing to reside independently, President Akufo-Addo can send a powerful message about personal responsibility and growth.
The statement released by the group also indicated that should the President opt not to heed their call, AFRC is prepared to take alternative actions to underscore their message. In a show of solidarity with the recent victims of a significant incident, seemingly unnoticed by the President, AFRC may organise a visit to the President’s residence by those affected. This act aims to highlight the importance of showing concern for the welfare of all citizens, particularly those in need.
AFRC’s General Secretary, Prince K. Agyemang-Duah, urged the President to consider their appeal seriously, stating, “It is our utmost hope that the President pays heed to our call with alacrity.”
The call by AFRC highlights the collective interest in fostering positive values and providing the youth with inspirational figures. By addressing this issue, the organization intends to contribute to the growth and development of Ghana’s future leaders. The citizens look forward to the President’s response and hope that it aligns with their aspirations for a more self-reliant and independent youth population.
