UTV’s Sampson Nyamekye, in an attempt to sensationalize the issue, conducted a vox-pop in Kumasi, misrepresenting Mahama’s comments. The television network’s management has since urged Mahama to consider their apology and acknowledge the harm caused by their unsubstantiated report.
The formal apology was telecast during one of UTV’s news bulletins. David Ofori Safo, known as Bongo Depharaa, a member of UTV’s news team, stated, “UTV News is unreservedly apologizing to the NDC flagbearer because he did not state anywhere that he would ensure a remarking of the WASSCE. We apologize to John Dramani Mahama, the leadership of the NDC, and the general membership, as well as our audience. Nowhere did he say he would order a remarking of the WASSCE, and we hereby apologize.”
This public apology aims to rectify the misinformation and uphold journalistic integrity in the wake of the misleading news report.
