The Assin Central Member of Parliament, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has stirred controversy with allegations of corruption against Hon. Francis Asenso Boakye, the Minister for Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Bantama. The accusations surfaced in a video recording capturing Hon. Agyapong during a campaign meeting with New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in the Bantama constituency.
In the video, Hon. Agyapong asserts that Hon. Asenso Boakye engaged in corrupt practices, specifically claiming that bribes were sought from foreigners during Asenso Boakye’s tenure as Deputy Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House. Notably, Agyapong encourages delegates to seek confirmation from Kwabena Asante of Adom FM, implying that Asante was privy to the allegations.
Kwabena Asante has swiftly responded, categorically denying any involvement or knowledge of corruption-related discussions with Hon. Agyapong. He states that he has neither met nor spoken to Agyapong regarding corruption allegations against Hon. Asenso Boakye. Asante emphasizes his lack of awareness of any attempts by the former Deputy Chief of Staff to solicit bribes from foreigners.
“As a matter of fact, I am not aware of any attempt by the former Deputy Chief of Staff to solicit bribes from any foreigner(s),” clarifies Asante in his response.
The journalist advises the public to disregard any allegations made by Hon. Agyapong in which his name is mentioned. This development raises questions about the nature of the claims made by Agyapong and the potential impact on political dynamics within the NPP, particularly in the lead-up to the parliamentary primary.
As the controversy unfolds, attention is likely to shift to the credibility of the allegations and the relationships between political figures. The public awaits further developments, and Hon. Asenso Boakye may respond to the accusations in the coming days..
