In a bombshell statement, Mustapha Foyo Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the opposition NDC in charge of operations, has issued a chilling warning to the Electoral Commission (EC) and its Chair, Mrs. Jean Adukwei Mensah. Gbande claimed that if Ghanaians are exposed to the risk of violence or even death in next year’s elections, then the families of the EC officials responsible will not be spared either!

“We won’t sit idly by while they put the lives of women, children, and innocent Ghanaians at risk,” Gbande thundered, before adding, “If Jean Mensah and Bossman Asare expose us to the risk of being killed in a chaotic election, we’ll also expose their families to the same dangers they are putting us in.”

Gbande didn’t stop there. He accused the Electoral Commission of being in league with the ruling NPP in a plot to “break the 8” by any means necessary, even if it means subverting the will of the people. The NDC firebrand slammed President Akufo-Addo for allegedly packing the EC with NPP loyalists who are “ready and willing” to steal the 2024 election.

The allegations follow the recent voter exhibition exercise, which has raised serious questions about the integrity of the 2024 voter register. Nearly 4,000 names were reportedly deleted, while over 15,000 voters were transferred without any record of where they came from. In a scandalous twist, more than 240,000 names transferred in 2020 are back on the list for 2024 in a suspected double-entry ploy.

Gbande accused the EC of deliberately trying to rig the election, saying that’s why they refuse to allow a forensic audit of the voters’ roll. “This is a deliberate plan by the EC and NPP to steal the 2024 election,” he fumed. “Ghanaians must not die because of an election. It’s one man, one vote—period!”

Speaking to The Hawk Newspaper during a massive protest in Accra on September 17, Gbande doubled down on his call for the EC to submit to an audit of the voter register to guarantee free, fair, and credible elections.
“If they don’t do the right thing, and elections are rigged, putting Ghanaians in danger, then the NDC will also put Jean Mensah and her family in danger,” Gbande warned, in a statement that is sure to send shockwaves through the political landscape.

As the stakes rise ahead of the 2024 elections, tensions between the NDC and the EC appear to be nearing a boiling point. With accusations of voter fraud and threats of violence flying in all directions, Ghana’s peaceful democracy could be on the verge of a dangerous new chapter.
