The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has plunged into a brutal bout of infighting, with key figures from Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s 2024 campaign team turning against each other ahead of the highly anticipated report from the Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye committee on the party’s devastating electoral loss.
At the centre of the storm is a fierce war of words between former NPP Communications Director Yaw Adomako Baafi and the ex-Director of Communications for Bawumia’s campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, with accusations of arrogance, mismanagement, and financial hoarding flying thick and fast.
Baafi Blasts Miracles Aboagye: ‘Know-Nothing Big Head!’
Baafi has come out swinging, accusing Miracles Aboagye of being an arrogant political lightweight who failed to relate properly with party communicators, resulting in a media blackout that contributed to the NPP’s humiliating loss.
“I am not the one to destroy you; your own behaviour will destroy you,” Baafi fired on Okay FM. “When you call him, he won’t pick up. When he sees other people, he walks past them. He wanted to be a master rather than a servant. What did he know? Nothing!”
Baafi also took issue with allegations that Miracles hoarded campaign funds meant for party communicators, leaving them neglected while the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) heavily invested in their media outreach.
Miracles Fights Back: ‘It’s Just Jealousy!’
But Miracles Aboagye was having none of it. Speaking on Asempa FM, he dismissed Baafi’s criticisms as jealousy, arguing that Baafi had always resented his appointment as Director of Communications for the campaign.
“If someone dislikes you, no matter what you do, you can never impress them,” Miracles said. “Baafi was not happy about my appointment, so this is expected.”
He also denied allegations of financial hoarding, insisting that he was never in charge of campaign funds.
“I was not the Director of Finance, and I did not handle campaign money. If funds were to be disbursed, they had to go through the Director of Finance, not me!” he declared.
Post-Election Blame Game Engulfs NPP
Baafi vs. Miracles Aboagye is just one battle in a growing war among Bawumia loyalists, as key NPP figures turn on each other while awaiting the findings of the Oquaye committee.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu vs. John Boadu
Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has accused ex-General Secretary John Boadu of mishandling party affairs and contradicting himself on the need for an investigation into the NPP’s defeat.
“At first, he said the investigation was unnecessary, but later, he turned around and said it was essential. How do you take such a person seriously?” he fumed.
Baafi vs. Eugene Arhin
Baafi has also turned his guns on Eugene Arhin, former Communications Director at the Jubilee House, blaming him for the party’s poor media relations.
“One of the biggest problems the NPP faced was appointing Eugene Arhin. Nana could travel, and nobody would know! The party lost touch with the media because of him,” he charged.
Abronye vs. Henry Quartey
Bono Regional Chairman Abronye DC has alleged that ex-Interior Minister Henry Quartey’s handling of police affairs before the election played a role in the party’s downfall.
“NPP people shouldn’t blame Dampare for our loss; they should blame Henry Quartey. He was the one advising Akufo-Addo on police appointments, and it backfired!” Abronye claimed on Wontumi TV.
Appiah Kubi vs. Ken Ofori-Atta
Former MP Appiah-Kubi has blamed ex-Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for the NPP’s defeat, accusing him of wielding too much power.
“Ken Ofori-Atta was more powerful than the President and Vice President. That’s why we wanted him out,” he stated on TV3.
Eugene Boakye vs. Akufo-Addo
Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi has pointed the finger at President Akufo-Addo and his family for alienating grassroots supporters.
“The NPP’s defeat cannot be discussed without mentioning Akufo-Addo,” he said. “His family’s treatment of loyal party members deepened divisions within the party.”
What’s Next? More Bloodletting Expected!
With the Oquaye committee set to release its report soon, the battle lines are already drawn. Will the warring factions bury the hatchet, or will the NPP’s internal strife spiral further out of control?
One thing is clear: the Bawumia Boys are at war, and this is only the beginning!
