DDr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has promised to elevate Kumawu to municipal status under his presidency in a move aimed at fostering better governance and accelerated development in the town. The bold declaration was made during a campaign visit to Kumawu on Sunday, November 17, where he was hosted by the Chief of Kumawu, Barima Tweneboa Kodua.

“I will be the President who is going to give Kumawu a municipal status,” Dr Bawumia announced, responding to the chief’s request for improved governance. “You have made a strong case for that, and I want to assure you that it will happen under my presidency by the grace of God.”

The promise is part of Bawumia’s wider plan to deepen decentralization and bring governance closer to the people, ensuring better public service delivery and improved infrastructure across the region. He emphasized that granting Kumawu municipal status would strengthen local governance and provide the community with a more efficient and responsive administration.
In addition to the municipal status, Dr. Bawumia revealed plans to establish a nursing training college in Kumawu, a project he confirmed had already been approved. “I know the establishment of a nursing training college is dear to you. I am happy to announce that the nursing training college has been approved. For the accreditation, we will ensure it is expedited for the project to take off,” Bawumia assured the residents.

The announcement was met with great enthusiasm by the residents and traditional leaders, who expressed optimism about the transformative impact these initiatives could have on the area. The nursing training college, in particular, is seen as a significant step towards improving healthcare and providing educational opportunities for the youth of Kumawu.

Dr. Bawumia also took the opportunity to officially commission the newly constructed multipurpose district assembly office, a key infrastructure project aimed at enhancing the efficiency of the local administration.

“We are committed to bringing development to every corner of this country. Education and governance reforms are the foundation for a prosperous Ghana, and Kumawu will not be left behind in this journey,” Bawumia stated, reaffirming his dedication to fulfilling his promises and improving the lives of Ghanaians.

The NPP’s plan for Kumawu has sparked widespread optimism in the region, with many hopeful that the proposed upgrades will unlock greater economic and social opportunities for the town’s residents.
