During his heartfelt acceptance speech, Kwame Kwakye, acclaimed author of “Beyond Fatherhood: Changing The Narrative,” expressed profound gratitude to the divine for guiding him on this remarkable journey. He also extended appreciation to the management of Ezone Media Network for bestowing upon him the honor. “The overwhelming support and praise from my fellow media colleagues were incredibly humbling. Their validation of my commitment to this field is something I cherish and accept with great solemnity,” he articulated graciously.

Seizing the opportunity, the advocate for fatherhood expressed heartfelt gratitude to his dedicated colleagues at GBC Radio Central, especially highlighting the unwavering support of Shadrack Nana Nyarko, Janet Mensah Aryitey (Mrs.), Ben Nartey, and the listeners whose votes solidified his victory. “Our collective efforts and the immense love shown ensured my win, for which I am profoundly grateful. Special acknowledgment goes to my Head of Programmes, Nana Ama Andrews,” Kwakye emphasized, visibly moved by the support.

The event’s Guest Speaker, Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart from Onua Maakye fame, shared insightful reflections on his personal journey through Winneba, Kumasi, and Accra. “One vital lesson in this media practice is to honor and show appreciation to our predecessors,” Mr. Smart reminded his fellow colleagues.

Admonishing younger professionals, Captain Smart cautioned against prioritizing monetary gains, affirming that starting with monetary objectives could lead to compromising journalistic integrity. He stressed the significance of impartiality in reporting, particularly in the upcoming election year, urging journalists to fairly critique both the NDC and NPP when warranted. He also lamented the economic challenges faced by the Central Region due to the absence of major corporations and industries.

In an unexpected and generous pledge, the host of Onua TV’s morning show vowed to sponsor a new category in the upcoming year’s awards. This category aims to honor radio presenters and producers whose stories have made a substantial impact during the year. The promise of a ¢2,000.00 cash award and a four-day, all-expenses-paid stay in a chosen Accra hotel for the winner received thunderous applause from the captivated audience.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines, Oheneba Amaniapong, the Executive Director of Ezone Media Network, encouraged media practitioners in the region to continue uplifting the region’s image through their influential voice. He expressed gratitude for the successful sixth edition of the Central Media Awards, acknowledging the lack of significant corporate sponsorships while affirming the network’s dedication to recognizing deserving regional media practitioners. Amaniapong appealed for increased corporate support in subsequent editions to augment the award’s prize money.

The Central Media Awards, an annual event organized by Ezone Media Network, featured a whopping 40 categories this year, lauding the exceptional achievements of journalists in the region.
