Deputy Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is gearing up for a legal battle after Angel Broadcasting Network’s (ABN) Angel FM aired what he calls a deliberate smear campaign, aiming to tarnish his reputation. Yohuno, known for his dedication to the Ghana Police Service, is demanding an immediate retraction from the station, warning that if they fail to comply, he’ll see them in court.

On November 13, 2024, Yohuno’s legal team at Sory @ Law fired off a scathing letter to ABN, demanding they retract explosive allegations broadcast on Angel FM’s “Angel Morning Show” and later circulated by Agenda TV on TikTok. The show’s host, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, accused Yohuno of misusing police influence to seize land with the aid of “land guards,” engaging in illegal mining activities and damaging the image of the Police Service. Yohuno’s team insists the claims are “outrageous fabrications” designed to incite public resentment.

The scandal has only intensified as Afrifa Mensah doubled down on his claims, boasting that he verified the information with “six solid sources” and even has “evidence in hand” to back his allegations. But for Yohuno, a respected officer with a reputation for rooting out illegal activity, this is more than just a smear—it’s a direct assault on his years of service.

Yohuno’s lawyers asserted that Afrifa Mensah did not attempt to seek their client’s side, accusing the host of a “reckless disregard” for journalistic standards. Sory @ Law underscored Yohuno’s unblemished record, highlighting his years of dedicated service against illegal mining and his commitment to integrity in the force, saying these claims stand in stark contrast to the man’s real character.

In a hard-hitting ultimatum, Yohuno has demanded a full retraction within 24 hours, warning that ABN’s failure to comply will lead to immediate legal action. His team hinted at potential “serious legal consequences” if ABN allows the defamation to continue unchecked.

With Ghana’s public keenly observing, ABN’s next steps will likely set a precedent in press accountability and ethics—will they issue the retraction or prepare for a fierce courtroom clash?
