The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is shaking things up this year by moving the National Farmers’ Day celebration to the Greater Accra Region, ditching the traditional regional events altogether. Set for November 8, 2024, this landmark 40th edition promises to spotlight the urgent theme: “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture for Sustainable Food Security.”
The grand finale will unfold at the Alisa Hotel in North Ridge at 4:00 PM, where President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will take center stage to honour outstanding farmers across 16 categories. This star-studded awards night is all about recognizing the tireless efforts of farmers who have played a pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s agricultural landscape.
In a break from tradition, there will be no regional celebrations this year. Instead, each region is invited to nominate winners for ten regional award categories, ensuring that the cream of the crop from all over the country gets their moment in the spotlight. “No regional celebrations this year! Each region can nominate winners for ten categories,” the Ministry confirmed.
Award winners will need to make their way to Accra for the big night. Regional Ministers will present awards to honorees from their areas, creating a united front in celebrating agricultural excellence. “Regional award winners must travel to Accra on November 8 for the 4:00 PM ceremony,” the Ministry stressed.
All travel, accommodation, and meal expenses for these regional heroes will be covered by their respective Regional Coordinating Councils. The Ministry added, “Expenses for regional winners will be handled by their councils. It’s all about making this happen!”
Attendance at the ceremony is mandatory for all Regional Ministers and Directors of Agriculture, with their costs similarly covered. “Regional Ministers and Directors of Agriculture are required to be there—your councils are on it,” the statement clarified.
This year’s National Farmers’ Day is set to be a landmark occasion, shining a light on the pressing need for climate-resilient agricultural practices as we face food security challenges head-on. The Ministry is rallying everyone to gear up for a night of celebration that honours the invaluable contributions of farmers and charts a path toward a sustainable agricultural future.
Ghana’s farmers and stakeholders are urged to come together for an unforgettable night that celebrates their hard work and dedication to the nation’s prosperity.
