Samuel Atta Mensah, the no-nonsense CEO of Citi FM and Channel 1 TV, has torn into Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Daniel Mireku Duker, in a blistering rant, calling for his immediate sacking. According to the media boss, the Minister’s recent comments about calls to protect Ghana’s natural resources have shown him to be nothing but “ignorant and incompetent.”
Atta Mensah didn’t hold back, ripping into the Deputy Minister over his dismissive attitude towards a powerful coalition of CSOs, religious groups, and professionals who’ve all united in a cry for action. But instead of taking the heat seriously, Duker had the gall to brand their demands for a temporary ban on certain land activities as “misguided.”
Fuming on air, Atta Mensah lit up the airwaves, saying, “Sack the man. He’s embarrassing your government! I’ve been in the media for over three decades, and never have I seen such unity from civil society and religious bodies over an issue, only for a Deputy Minister to come out with such an ignorant statement. Sack him today, today, today!”
And that wasn’t all. Atta Mensah, clearly infuriated, slammed the Minister’s comments as “heavily incompetent.” He added, “If anyone is listening, the only thing misguided is that man’s thinking.”
The Deputy Minister’s response—dismissing calls from the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, and even the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences—left Atta Mensah baffled.
“We’re calling for a temporary ban to fix this mess, and you ask how it can be done? Are you serious? What books are you reading?” Atta Mensah raged. “Some people seem to think that once they become politicians or ministers, it means they’re smarter than everyone else. That’s the problem.”
Lashing out even harder, he added, “Catholic Bishops, Apostolic Fathers, the Pentecostal Council, the Academy of Arts and Sciences—they’ve all spoken! And you, a Deputy Minister, have the nerve to call their concerns ‘misguided’? It’s ridiculous.”
The fiery media boss didn’t mince his words, accusing Duker of peddling “ignorant and dangerous” ideas. “Some people think being a minister gives them a license to advertise their ignorance. This is exactly what he’s doing. His comments aren’t just wrong—they’re dangerous!”
Atta Mensah’s comments reflect the growing frustration in the country, where many are fed up with how the government is handling the nation’s land and resources. Civil society, religious leaders, and professionals are all demanding action, and Duker’s remarks have only thrown fuel on the fire.A Government in Hot Water?
With this latest uproar, the pressure is mounting on President Akufo-Addo’s administration to respond. Can they afford to ignore calls to fire Duker, or will this turn into a full-blown crisis?
Samuel Atta Mensah’s on-air tirade has certainly upped the ante, and now all eyes are on the government to see how they handle the fallout. One thing’s for sure—Duker isn’t getting off the hook easily, and the heat is well and truly on!
