President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo through his minister for Local Government, Dan Kwaku Botwe on Sunday September 19, 2021 officially transmitted a list of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive nominees to the various regions for further confirmation.
The move is part of efforts aimed at responding to calls to constitute a new local governing authority for his second term.
In all Two Hundred and Sixty (260) names were forwarded to the various regional Ministers.
Out of the over 260 names submitted, thirty-seven were women representing 14.23 percent making the President’s much-touted 30 percent affirmative action further nose-dived. Amongst them, a former legislator and past Deputy Greater Accra Region Minister, Madam Elizabeth Sackey has been named for the position of the Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) pending approval by assembly members.
One Hundred and twenty-eight (128) representing 49.23 percent of the 260 were retained as One hundred and thirty-two new nominees.
The remaining thirty-six profiled by The Hawk Newspaper were: Millicent Kabuki Carboo a former Women Organizer for Biakoye Constituency, and President of Loyal Ladies, Oti Division nominated for Biakoye District.

Akufo-Addo was re-elected nine months ago, but Ghana has been without a substantive MMDCES since the MMDCES serving during his first term were directed to act in February 2021.
The gap has led to a slowdown in investment and a near-halt in decision making, according to investors, contractors and party chieftains. Akufo-Addo took about three months to form a cabinet at the start of his first term in 2017.
The regional ministers are expected to contact the Electoral Commission who will commence processes for assembly elections on the various nominees.
Meanwhile, the good people of Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi otherwise referred as to SALL in the Oti Region have been shun again.
Following the maturation of a Legislative Instrument (LI) laid in Parliament by the then Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Hajia Halima Mahama, the Jean Mensa led Electoral Commission was enjoined by law to create a new Constituency for the newly created Guan District, but reneged on her responsibilities for reasons reserved for her alone.
The communities under Guan District were previously part of the Hohoe Municipal (District Electoral Areas and Designation of Units) Instrument, 2014. C. I. 85.
However, the area was placed in the Oti Region in the Referendum (Creation of New Regions) Regulations, 2018 C. I. 109 of 30th November 2018 as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry into the creation of the six new regions.
Consequently, Guan was made part of the Oti Region in Oti Region Instrument, 2019 C. I. 112 on 8th February 2019.
It was also included in the Jasikan District in the Oti Region as provided in the District Electoral Areas and Designation of Unit Assemblies.
However, the government has now created it as a new district with the maturity in the parliament of Local Government (Guan District Assembly) (Establishment) Instrument, 2020.
Sadly, the indigens of this District/Constituency were denied the opportunity to elect a representative into parliament.
