In a jaw-dropping twist, Jasmine Obrempong Dwumoh, once a bright hopeful for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Gomoa East, has reportedly ended her decade-long marriage in a bid for political stardom.
The sizzling scoop? A Central Region NDC bigwig allegedly promised her a coveted spot on the party’s 2024 regional campaign team and a prime position as District Chief Executive after the elections.
The drama began in 2023 when Jasmine threw her hat into the ring to become the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa East. Competing against five other contenders, Jasmine’s dreams were dashed when the incumbent MP, Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, emerged victorious.
But Jasmine didn’t fade away quietly. She landed significant roles on the Central Region Finance Committee and as Deputy Protocol Director, sparking outrage and confusion among Gomoa East Constituency Executives.
The rapid ascent of Jasmine, out of six qualified candidates, to these plum positions raised many eyebrows. The Gomoa East Executives, during a fiery regional meeting in Cape Coast, demanded to know why Jasmine was being favoured.
The plot thickened with revelations about Jasmine’s personal life. Married to Nana Opoku Obrempong Dwumoh, who had flown back to Ghana from the United States of America to support her political dreams, pouring an estimated GH¢1.4 million into her campaign. But instead of receiving accolades, he found himself relegated to the role of Jasmine’s driver and bodyguard.
As whispers of Jasmine’s political maneuvers grew, so did the strains on her marriage. Ultimately, Jasmine accepted the tantalizing political offer and cut ties with her husband, ending their ten-year marriage.
In a dramatic turn, Jasmine has dragged Nana Opoku Obrempong Dwumoh before the Kasoa branch of DOVVSU, pressing assault charges against the father of her children. Reports say Jasmine has rejected every plea from her husband to move on from the past, stating that Dwumoh should be grateful she took him to the police rather than poison him.
Failing to resolve the case, Kasoa DOVVSU has escalated the assault case to the Kasoa Circuit Court. The case has been adjourned to tomorrow, Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
All attempts to get Jasmine’s side of the story have proven futile. Meanwhile, Nana Opoku Obrempong Dwumoh confirmed the case is in court but refused to disclose any further details.
Sources close to the embattled couple reveal that Jasmine seems totally uninterested in her marriage. “It’s clear Jasmine’s over it. Fights happen in marriage, but if she really cared, she wouldn’t push this to court. It should’ve ended at DOVVSU with just a warning. No one drags their spouse to court after an apology if they still love each other,” a close friend of the couple dished.
This scandalous saga of ambition, betrayal, and political intrigue is set to keep tongues wagging as Jasmine navigates the turbulent waters of Ghanaian politics. Will she achieve the political glory she’s sacrificed so much for, or will the fallout from her personal decisions overshadow her ambitions?
