John Dramani Mahama

• Vows to Stay Honest in New Bid

Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the NDC, has come clean about his time in office, admitting things weren’t perfect but swearing he gave it his all. Reflecting on his presidency, Mahama says he’s learned some tough lessons and is ready to use that wisdom to steer Ghana towards better days.

He’s all about building trust, promising Ghanaians he’ll keep it real and avoid making empty promises as he gears up for the December 7 polls. Mahama’s vow to stay truthful is a jab at the current Akufo-Addo administration, which he slams for its poor performance and the nation’s dwindling faith in democracy.

Citing a recent Afrobarometer report, he pointed out the shocking rise in prices that are squeezing the life out of citizens. According to the survey, a whopping 80% of Ghanaians believe the country is on the wrong track. Mahama didn’t mince words, lamenting the current government’s failures and the hard times people are facing.

“I wouldn’t say things were perfect, but at least we were making progress. What I can promise you is that I will be truthful to you, I will never tell you lies, I will never tell you things I cannot do,” Mahama vowed, aiming to win back the hearts of voters with his candid approach.

Pundits are hailing the former president for acknowledging the shortcomings of his government. “It is a sign that he has truly learned from his mistakes and appeared reformed and prepared for a new opening,” Benjamin Nsiah, the Executive Director of the Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy (CEMSE) said in a post-campaign lunch analysis.
