Public sector workers could be in for a massive 35% salary increase, but only after the economy recovers, President John Dramani Mahama has assured. Addressing the National Tripartite Committee, Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to fair wages, promising to fully support a significant pay hike once economic stability is restored.

“If we have an Independent Emoluments Committee and they propose a 35% salary increase, I will back it—because it will affect my pay too,” Mahama declared, stressing his dedication to ensuring better pay for all workers.

Acknowledging the financial struggles of workers due to rising inflation and economic hardship, Mahama called for temporary restraint as the government worked to correct the economy. The 10% base pay increase already announced, he explained, is part of a phased approach to economic recovery.

“I understand the difficulties, but let’s use this year as a period of correction. Once we recover, we will set realistic targets and ensure fair wage adjustments,” he assured.

If implemented, the 35% salary boost would be one of the most significant in Ghana’s recent history, bringing much-needed relief to public sector workers.

Mahama’s pledge signals a bold commitment to economic fairness, making it clear that as the country moves forward, workers will not be left behind!
