President John Dramani Mahama has assured the newly appointed Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiamah, and his First Deputy, Dr. Zacharia Mumuni, that his government will not repeat the reckless money-printing spree that sank Ghana’s economy under the Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking at their swearing-in ceremony at Jubilee House on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, Mahama took a swipe at former BoG Governor Dr. Ernest Addison, accusing him of flooding the system with billions of freshly printed cedis on Akufo-Addo’s orders—driving inflation through the roof and destabilizing the economy.

“Be rest assured that I will not ask you to print more money,” Mahama declared, vowing to uphold sound monetary policies that will restore confidence in Ghana’s financial sector.

He also slammed Akufo-Addo’s so-called banking sector reforms, branding them as a ruthless, short-sighted purge that wiped out businesses, cost thousands their jobs, and deepened economic hardship.

With Dr. Asiamah and Dr. Mumuni now at the helm of BoG, Mahama says Ghana’s economic recovery has begun, promising stability, proper currency regulation, and an end to financial recklessness. “This is the reset Ghana desperately needs,” he stated.

The message is clear: under Mahama, the days of printing money to prop up bad governance are over!
