The sleeping cabinet ministers of Akufo-Addo

Ministers and MPs caught on camera sleeping through the 2020 budget presentation have sparked criticism that they are old and weak for their respective portfolios.

Food and Agriculture Minister, and Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso Constituency Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto has been caught napping in Parliament when the national budget for 2020 is been read.

Owusu Afriyie, 70, is one of the cabinet ministers who seem to have improvised a way to escape the scrutiny of nosy media cameras that have on several occasions caught aged government officials dozing at important events.

No sooner had Parliament business of the day started than the minister fell into a deep slumber.

Eyewitness say the farms minister switched sleep mode barely ten minutes into the presentation.

The Dormaa Central Lawmaker and Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu. was also caught busily sleeping in Parliament when Finance Minister was on the floor presenting the 2020 financial statement.

Agyemang-Manu, 64 has served as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee in the immediate-past Parliament and was the acting CEO of the National Health Authority in 2006, and also the deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning under former President Kufuors administration (2001 to 2008).

Social media activists have not taken it gently with the two top government officials who have decided to take a kip on national television at a state gathering.

Not long ago, a video of President Akufo-Addo in a sleeping attitude during the maiden Russia-Africa Summit held in Sochi, Russia went viral.

In that video, Nana Addo was seen restfully sitting amongst other dignitaries with his eyes seemingly closed and snoring off his woes.
