The Trio

The crisis rocking the Ashanti Regional  chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a worrisome dimension as   Patrick Ndego, a convener of a Youth Group dubbed The Eagle Eye-Watch, among others, demanded the immediate removal of Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi, Ashanti Regional chairman of the NDC, Kwame Zu as Regional Secretary and Isham Alhassan Bonso as the regional organizer.

Ndego made the demand in a petition submitted at a meeting with Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, the NDC General Secretary at the party’s national secretariat in Adabraka on Thursday, 13th October, 2022.

He said, was so shocked to learn that the National Executive have decided not to act on the report presented to them by the Ashanti Region Council of Elders.

‘The discovery triggered me to mobilized my group to picket at the party Headquarters on Tuesday, 11October, 2022. After meeting with the General Secretary, he confidently informed us that his outfit has not received any petition as we were made to believe by the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders’.

Dissatisfied, he elected to petition the party to arrest the situation in the region.

“This petition is written with a view of notifying the National Executive Committee  of the state of affairs of our great party in Ashanti Region. As a member of the party, I strongly believe that it is my duty to bring these anomalies to your attention for urgent remedial action. For a stitch in time saves nine! he told the General Secretary.

Patrick is demanding the National Executive of the NDC to remove the Ashanti regional chairman, Augustus Andrews and his secretary, Kwame Zu from their respective offices in tandem with Article 46 (9c) of the NDC’s constitution as their continuous stay in office poses a huge threat to the fortunes of the NDC Iin the upcoming 2024 General Elections.

For Ndego, the National Executive Committee must pay r attention to paragraphs 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 on pages (1&2) and all the paragraphs under chapter 5 (conclusions) of report of the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders.

Chairman Nana Akwasi and Kwame Zu have been in the news for bad reasons. Unconfirmed reports say the duo have been indicted for their roles in trading the party for their personal good in the 2020 elections by a team of Council of Elders.

Although, Nana Akwasi’s social media troopers have been trying harder to purge him of any wrongdoing, it seems his troubles in the region won’t expire anytime soon with this fresh petition on the desk of the General Secretary awaiting action.

Receiving the report, Aseidu Nketiah said, every member of the party reserves the right to petition the party on any subject. He thanked Patrick and team for the courageous step and assured them the petition will be put before the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) today Tuesday 18th October, 2022.

The petition read: “I am a Ghanaian and a card bearing member of the National Democratic Congress with party ID number H030830008, who is poised to help the party to win Election 2024 at all cost.

On Thursday 22nd  September, 2022, I cited a report in the Chronicle Newspaper “Vol 31. No170 with the heading “WHY NDC FAILED IN ASHANTI REGION……regional chairman and secretary indicted”. It was followed by breaking news on Kessben FM, Peace FM, Hello FM and other notable media outlets.

Because of my thirst for power in 2024, I developed an interest in the story. Upon reading the various publications and following the various discussions in the media about the NDC, regarding a purported report emanating from the Council of Elders in the Ashanti Region, I became worried and heartbroken as a member of the party and therefore decided to travel to Kumasi to ascertain the veracity of the emanating issues from this purported report from the Council of Elders in the Region.

In Kumasi, I met with Ambassador Ohene Agyekum, a member of the Council of Elders, who during a brief-discussions with him spoke extensively about the report. In the course of our discussions, he mentioned Hon. Johny Osei Kofi’s name as the secretary of the committee. I proceeded to meet Hon. Johny Osei Kofi and after a long discussion he acceded to my request for a copy of the report and paid GH60 cedis as the agreed cost of the report.

I was told that same report has been delivered to the National Executive Committee through the General Secretary, President John Dramani Mahama, and other relevant personalities in the party

13th October, 2022

My love for the party and the general outcry from the masses forced me to dive deep into all the voluminous reports and publications in relation to the Fact- Finding Committee report hence, my decision to petition.

After I finished reading the report, I became so surprised why the National Executive will receive such a report and decide not to take any action. This perception pushed me to organize some men to picket the party Headquarters on 11th October, 2022. After meeting with the General Secretary, he confidently informed us that his outfit has not received any petition as we were made to believe by the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders.

Please the attached is a copy of the report and the EXECUTIVE SUMMARY. Kindly avert your mind on Paragraph 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. page (1&2) and all the paragraphs under chapter 5 (conclusions).

Based on this development, I therefore write to invoke Article 49 1 (a) of our party’s Constitution that as a matter of urgency, the National Executive must call for an emergency meeting to consider this petition and study the report by the ASHANTI REGIONAL COUNCIL OF ELDERS

That the Functional Executive Committee must with immediate effect SUSPEND the Ashanti Regional Chairman Augustus Andrews and the Secretary Kwame for violation of the party’s constitution.

  1. That the National Executive must with immediate effect remove the regional chairman Augustus Andrews and Kwame Zu from their respective offices as per Article 46 (9c) of the party’s constitution as their continuous stay in office poses a huge threat to the fortunes of the party in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
  2. That the Functional Executive Committee must as a matter of urgency SUSPEND any other executive within the region found of any wrongdoing or anyone used as a conduit or an appendage to these anti- party conduct by these above-mentioned officers of the party.
  3. That the actions of the Functional Executive Council and the party at large in this issue and their swiftness in delivering justice will advice my next step of ACTION!’.
