• But NDC’S Green Army Commandant says they won’t be cowed
The Member of Parliament for Abetifi Constituency, Bryan Acheampong, has reiterated his position from last year, asserting that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) stands no chance of winning the 2024 general elections, and thus, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not relinquish power to them.
Speaking at a unity walk organised by the NPP as part of this year’s Kwahu Easter celebrations in Mpraeso, Kwahu South Municipality, Eastern Region, Mr. Acheampong emphasised that despite economic challenges faced by Ghana, including obstacles for contractors due to factors such as COVID-19 and the Russian-Ukraine war, the NPP had implemented measures to revive the economy, leading to positive outcomes such as improved inflation rates and a drop in the dollar rate.
“Last year, I stood here in Mpraeso and said that whether NDC likes it or not, they will never win the December 7 polls and, therefore, the NPP will not hand over power to them because they cannot win the elections.
“If you can not win elections, why do you want power to be given to you at all cost.”
“As at that time, I made the statements Ghana was confronted with economic challenges which made it difficult for contractors to do their work, unable to continue agenda 111 projects among others”, Mr Acheampong stated.
He expressed confidence in these economic strides resonating with voters and securing the NPP’s victory in the upcoming elections. Mr. Acheampong concluded by stating that, with the current positive indicators, the NPP was poised to decisively win the forthcoming elections.
In response, the commandant of the NDC’ Green Army, George Opare Addo has delivered a firm message to the MP for Abetifi, in anticipation of the upcoming 2024 elections.
Addressing party supporters in Bryan’s Constituency, Opare-Addo asserted the NDC’s confidence in winning the 2024 elections, dismissing any attempts by Bryan Acheampong or the NPP to impede their victory.
“I have personally conveyed a clear warning to Bryan Acheampong and his allies within the NPP, directly in his hometown of Abetifi, to ensure he receives it unequivocally. If they dare challenge us, let them do so on Election Day, December 7, 2024,” stated Addo.
Asserting their commitment to upholding democratic principles, Addo emphasized that former president and flagbearer John Dramani Mahama will emerge triumphant in December, securing the presidency for the NDC. He warned against any attempts to undermine the electoral process, vowing swift and forceful action against any obstructionists.
“We, the NDC Youth Wing, stand ready to confront any election irregularities or interference by agents of the incumbent government. Our response will be swift and resolute,” Addo declared, underscoring the determination of the NDC and the Ghanaian people.
