The highly anticipated Elmina fishing port, which has been constructed at a cost of 85 million Euros, is finally scheduled to be commissioned by the esteemed President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Friday, May 26th, 2023. In September 2022, the President embarked on a tour of the fishing port site, where he assessed the progress of the project, revealing that it was approximately 90.5 percent complete.

The construction of the state-of-the-art fishing port project began on August 01, 2023, and it encompasses a comprehensive docking space and deep marine access to guarantee the port’s long-term resilience and sustainability. Once commissioned, the fishing port will significantly elevate Elmina’s fishing capabilities and contribute to the growth of the local tourism economy, making it a vital asset for the area’s development.

The project, which spanned over a period of 30 months, was successfully executed by Bellsea Limited, a renowned construction company. The consulting engineers for the project were International Marine and Dredging Consultants (IMDC), who provided their expertise and guidance throughout the construction process.

Bellsea Limited has undertaken the construction of several crucial components for the project, including a 400-meter-long quay wall, an administration building, access roads, and breakwaters. These vital infrastructure elements have been meticulously built by Bellsea Limited to ensure the functionality, efficiency, and safety of the fishing port.

The design of the fishing port was carefully tailored to incorporate essential amenities and facilities to cater to the needs of the fisher folks. These include a dedicated fish market, a fish mending and auction hall, a workshop hall, ablution facilities, toilets, and even a daycare centre. This thoughtful approach ensures that the fishing community is provided with a comprehensive and supportive environment within the port premises.

Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, the respected Omanhene of Edina Traditional Council, expressed his immense satisfaction with the realization of the fishing port. He highlighted the significant challenges faced by the fisher folks in the absence of a fishing port in the area. With the construction of the port, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI acknowledged that these challenges would be alleviated, providing a much-needed boost to the livelihoods and well-being of the fishing community.

Hon. Solomon Ebo Appiah Esq., the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA), has provided assurance to the people of Elmina and KEEA.
