In a dramatic turn of events, the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has cracked the whip, suspending four MPs for two weeks after a disgraceful brawl that turned the vetting of ministerial nominees into a battlefield!

The suspended MPs—Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor (South Dayi), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Alhassan Tampuli (Gushegu), and Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe)—threw Parliament into total disarray, vandalizing furniture and microphones in a reckless display of lawlessness.

The shameful incident happened late Thursday night, after the vetting of Transport Minister nominee, Joseph Bukari Nikpe. The Minority had pushed for an adjournment, citing delays, but the Majority insisted on continuing, blaming Kwabena Mintah Akandoh for wasting three hours on a single nominee!

Tensions flared as Health and Foreign Affairs ministerial nominees were about to take their oaths, leading to a full-blown clash between the two sides. Shouts, chaos, and destruction followed, forcing Speaker Bagbin to step in and take decisive action!

Bagbin, visibly angered, described the behaviour of the MPs as “shameful and regrettable,” warning that Parliament is not a boxing ring and that such conduct was eroding public trust in the House. He has tasked a seven-member committee, chaired by Emmanuel Bedzrah (Ho West), to investigate the incident and ensure those responsible pay for the damages.

Meanwhile, the Speaker has ordered an assessment of the destruction and hinted that the salaries of the culprits could be slashed to cover the costs. He also left the door open for police intervention, signalling that Parliament is ready to deal with its rogue elements once and for all.

With growing calls for reforms, changes to the Appointments Committee could be next on the table. But one thing is certain—Bagbin is not here for jokes, and Parliament will not be turned into a wrestling arena!
