In a shocking revelation that has left Ghanaians seething with rage, it has emerged that Members of Parliament serving on Parliament’s Lands and Forestry Committee are being rewarded with prime government lands—simply for doing their jobs!
This outrageous practice was exposed during the vetting of Rashid Pelpuo, Minister-designate for Labour, Employment, and Job Creation, when he was interrogated by Jerry Ahmed Shaib, MP for Weija-Gbawe.
Ahmed bluntly asked: “Have you acquired government land?”
Without hesitation, Pelpuo admitted:
“While I was the Ranking Member for the Lands and Forestry Committee, we were informed that every time the Lands Committee was operating, at the end of the period, the Lands Commission would salute you and thank you by giving you a piece of land. They offered us a piece of land. I have not acquired it yet, but I hope that with the necessary effort, I will acquire it.”
Pelpuo’s statement confirms what many feared: while hardworking Ghanaians struggle to afford land, MPs are being handed prime plots on a silver platter—all because they sit on a parliamentary committee!
This revelation has sent shockwaves across the country, with citizens branding it as nothing short of institutionalised land grabbing. The burning question on everyone’s lips is:
How many MPs have quietly walked away with public lands over the years?
This corrupt arrangement raises serious concerns:
• Which other parliamentary committees have been benefiting from similar shady land allocations?
• How many acres of government land have been given away under this so-called ‘thank-you’ scheme?
• Why should serving in Parliament entitle MPs to state property meant for public use?
Instead of protecting state resources, our leaders are the very ones plundering them! Public lands meant for hospitals, schools, and housing projects are being handed over to politicians as ‘gifts’.
Future generations are being robbed! Instead of ensuring that public lands are used for national development, these politicians are grabbing them for personal gain, leaving ordinary citizens with nothing.
Furious citizens are calling for immediate investigations into this fraudulent land grab.
• The Lands Commission must release a full list of MPs and government officials who have benefited from state lands.
• The new Mahama government must act swiftly to recover looted lands and end this daylight robbery.
• Public assets belong to the people, not to a privileged few in Parliament!
If this scandal is not stopped, Ghana will soon have no land left for public use! How many more “thank-you” gifts have been handed out behind closed doors?
It’s time to expose the full extent of this betrayal and put an end to it—NOW!
