For over two years, Nana Oforiwaa Pokua II, the Kwahu Pepeasehemaa, has been missing—and the Kwahu Traditional Council’s silence is as deafening as it is suspicious.
Since 1 December 2022, she has vanished without medical leave or any official explanation. Her prolonged absence blatantly violates the Council’s own regulations, yet those responsible for upholding tradition have done nothing—no search, no inquiry, no answers.
A 2010 Standing Committee resolution, chaired by Daasebre Akuamoah II, was unequivocal: Chiefs and Queen Mothers cannot remain outside their jurisdiction for more than three months without a valid medical excuse. If they do, they forfeit their position.
So why, after more than 24 months, does Nana Oforiwaa Pokua II still hold her title? And why has the Council remained indifferent to a clear breach of its own protocols?
The people of Kwahu Pepease are left without their traditional leader, yet those entrusted with upholding custom appear unmoved and unresponsive. Is this negligence or complicity? Has the Council abandoned one of its own, or is there a deeper, more troubling truth behind this silence?
This lack of action raises serious questions about governance and accountability within the Kwahu Traditional Authority. If a Queen Mother can disappear without trace or consequence, what does it say about the structures meant to protect and uphold traditional leadership?
For now, the silence from the Council remains unbroken. But the people of Pepease deserve clarity, action, and above all—the truth.
Where is the Pepeasehemaa—and why does no one seem to care?
