Some residents of Appiatse, near Bogoso in the Western Region, who were left homeless after a devastating explosion, are finally moving into their newly constructed homes. The first phase of the long-awaited reconstruction project, spearheaded by the government, has now been completed, with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia officially inaugurating the new community a few months ago.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, which destroyed 124 homes, the government promised to rebuild and deliver state-of-the-art housing units to the displaced residents. True to its word, the government has constructed a series of modern homes, ranging from cozy one-bedroom units to spacious seven-bedroom houses, all equipped with top-notch sanitary facilities.
Thomas Yaw Enyam, the Assembly Member for the Bepoh-Appiatse Electoral area, confirmed that about 70% of the intended beneficiaries have already moved into their new accommodations. “Yes, it’s true. The beneficiaries started moving in about two weeks ago. The Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Isaac Dasmani, even provided a vehicle to help transport them from their temporary lodgings to their new homes,” he said.
However, the move-in process is not yet complete. Enyam urged those still waiting to relocate to be patient, assuring them that plans are underway to ensure everyone is smoothly resettled. The government’s promise to restore normalcy to the lives of the Appiatse residents is gradually being fulfilled, with the hope that the remaining families will soon join their neighbors in their brand-new homes.
