Pro-NDC media powerhouse Radio Gold has finally brokered peace with the man who once led their shutdown—Acting NCA Director-General Rev. Ing. Edmond Yirenkyi Fianko—after a fiery standoff that saw staff drop their microphones in protest.
The unexpected truce follows a one-day vigil and a two-day strike, with the station’s hard-hitting journalists rejecting Fianko’s appointment, citing his role in restricting pro-NDC frequencies to Accra while others enjoyed nationwide coverage.
FROM FIERCE PROTESTS TO HANDSHAKES—WHAT CHANGED?
Not even Sector Minister Sam Nartey George could initially convince them to engage. But in a dramatic U-turn, a five-member delegation from Radio Gold walked into Fianko’s office to ‘smoke the peace pipe.’
The delegation included:
🔹 Mamaga Nancy Kekeli Obimpeh – “The Last Woman Standing”
🔹 Sena Nombo – Host of Gold Morning Drive
🔹 Ransford Boakye – Pampamso firebrand
🔹 Eric Boateng – Producer extraordinaire
🔹 Albert Wotorblui – A friend of the station
The NCA wasted no time, taking to Facebook to jubilantly announce the meeting—a move that has since ignited backlash among Radio Gold’s hardcore supporters.
BETRAYAL OR STRATEGIC MOVE? LISTENERS FUME!
While the station’s executives may see this as diplomacy, loyal listeners aren’t buying it. Many who backed the station’s hard stance now feel betrayed by the sudden shift.
A furious supporter, Hamzah Ayambile, vented online:
“Eiiiii, I can’t think far oooo!”
Another, Langboung Danny Tiimin, directly tagged the delegation, demanding answers.
“Ah, now I understand Sam Dzata George,” he posted, implying that the Ningo-Prampram MP may have been right all along.
Kekeli HITS BACK: ‘WE DON’T OPERATE IN A VACUUM!’
In response, Kekeli Obimpeh defended the delegation’s move, making it clear that engagement with Fianko is inevitable.
“Tell JM to remove him as NCA boss, then we will deal with the new person. Until then, our operations are regulated and supervised by Fianko, and we can’t avoid these engagements—unless you assume Radio Gold operates in a vacuum!” she fired back.
GAME OVER OR JUST ROUND ONE?
While Radio Gold may have patched things up with Fianko, their hardcore supporters aren’t letting this go. Is this the end of the battle, or just a pause before the next big showdown?
