President-Akufo-Addo

President William Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

With just five months to go before the big vote, the Akufo-Addo administration is not shy about patting itself on the back. Echoing the African proverb, “the agama lizard says it will praise itself when no one does if it falls from a high iroko tree,” the government is making sure everyone hears its success stories.

The Ministry of Health is at the forefront, boasting about its massive recruitment drive since taking office in 2017. According to their figures, a whopping 202,527 new health workers have been brought on board. This includes 12,132 Medical Officers and House Officers, 165,272 Diploma and Degree Nurses and midwives, 8,688 support staff, 1,303 pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, 80 Medical Herbalists, and 13,471 allied Health Professionals and interns.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is rallying behind its slogan “Breaking the Eight” as it prepares for the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. The aim is clear: disrupt the traditional eight-year electoral cycle.

Their main rival? The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), with former President John Dramani Mahama leading the charge. For the NPP, the goal is not just to highlight its achievements but to draw sharp contrasts with Mahama’s tenure from 2013 to 2016.

As the election approaches, the NPP is doubling down on its accomplishments, particularly in the health sector, to sway voters and ensure their narrative of success is heard loud and clear.
