The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has done it again—but this time, it’s not about workers’ welfare, but a reckless political agenda that serves no one!
In a shocking move, CLOGSAG’s leadership has declared a nationwide strike from 20th February 2025, claiming they are protesting the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the Registrar of Births and Deaths. Yes, you read that right—a whole strike just because of one appointment!
But here’s the reality: the President has every legal right to make this appointment. Section 2 of the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 2020, Act 1027, makes it clear that the President, in line with Article 195 of the Constitution, has the sole authority to appoint the Registrar.
So, why is CLOGSAG up in arms over a decision that is fully backed by the law? Why is leadership dragging workers into an unnecessary political fight instead of focusing on real issues like salaries and conditions of service?
Workers Reject Leadership’s Misplaced Priorities
While CLOGSAG executives sit in their air-conditioned offices plotting political battles, their members are out in the real world struggling to make ends meet. Aggrieved workers have had enough!
They have flatly rejected the strike, calling it “irrelevant” and “misguided.” Instead of wasting time on appointments that do not affect their work, they are demanding answers to serious concerns:
• Where is the Enhanced Salary Structure (ESS) that was promised in October 2024?
• Why is leadership silent on the unlawful Pempasie Tier 3 deductions still draining their salaries?
• Why is CLOGSAG fighting political battles while workers suffer?
A furious worker summed it up: “We didn’t elect them to play politics. We need better pay, not a fight over appointments that do nothing for us!”
CLOGSAG’s Leadership Exposed – Time to Deliver, Not Distract.
The truth is clear—this strike is a distraction, an attempt to shift focus from leadership’s failures. Instead of tackling the real problems, they are chasing shadows and dragging hardworking members into unnecessary chaos.
But workers are no longer buying into the deception. They are going to work, refusing to be used as pawns in a political charade.
If CLOGSAG leadership truly cares about its members, it’s time to stop the political gimmicks and start delivering real results. If they fail to act, the next real strike may not be against the government—but against them!
