Malaria has been ranked first among Top ten (10) diseases recorded in the Assin Fosu Municipality in the Central Region.The Assin Fosu Municipal Health Nurse at Fosu Health Directorate Mad. Regina Tagoe in an interview said, Malaria increased from 41,006 in 2017 to 45,219 in 2018, a difference of 4,213 cases representing 43% of the total OPD cases recorded in 2018.
Mad. Tagoe answering question as to why the increase in malaria cases said, the people in some of the communities turned deaf ear to the education they gave as far as malaria is concern. She said, treated mosquito nets that were given to the people in other to reduce the prevalence rate of the disease were used as a fence instead. She added that, some pregnant women refuse to attend to antenatal and postnatal, and those who sells at night also refuses to wear protective cloths.
In addition, she said, sanitation burdens have been hanged around the necks of only the zoomlion and for that matter our environment are very dirty.
The Health Nurse said,the health service did all it could in the year and all its left is for the people to adhere to their guidelines and educations: malaria will continue to top the chart if we did not change our attitude.
Giving the statistics, Upper Respiratory Tract infections was placed second with 15657 cases while Intestinal worm occupied the 10th position with 3666 cases.
