Avram Ben Moshe, the outspoken founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Commonsense Family in Ghana, has launched a scathing attack on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of wasting taxpayer money on what he derisively calls “a hole.”
In a fiery statement, the “commonsense” preacher expressed disbelief at the president’s decision to demolish buildings to make way for the controversial National Cathedral project, which remains at the foundation stage after several years and has already swallowed a whopping $350 million.
Ben Moshie drew a sharp comparison between this project and former President John Mahama’s Saglemi Housing Project, which provided accommodation for 5,000 Ghanaians for $250 million. “If you call a president who used $250M to build homes for Ghanaians incompetent, what do you call the president who uses $350 million to build just a pit?” he questioned, leaving little doubt about his opinion on Akufo-Addo’s priorities.
The National Cathedral, which has been plagued by delays and soaring costs, has faced growing criticism from many Ghanaians who argue that the funds could be better spent on pressing social issues. Ben Moshie’s blistering remarks add fuel to the fire, highlighting the growing frustration over the project, which he sees as a monumental waste of resources.
With the Cathedral still far from completion, Ben Moshie’s words are likely to resonate with many who are disillusioned by the government’s handling of the project. As more Ghanaians question the value of the National Cathedral, the president finds himself under increasing pressure to justify the extravagant expenditure on a project that, for now, remains little more than a costly pit in the ground.
