Nii Noi Nortey, the 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency representing the governing New Patriotic Party, has unveiled ambitious plans to empower over 600 unemployed youths with free sewing training.

Addressing a gathering of tailors and dressmakers at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly Hall, Mr. Nortey emphasized the significance of providing apprenticeship opportunities to support jobless youths.

On the aegis of ‘Nii Noi Nortey Foundation,’ Mr. Nortey disclosed that preparations are underway to kickstart the training program promptly, highlighting the urgent need to tackle unemployment and bolster the local garment industry.

Mr. Nortey elaborated on the pressing need to assist motivated but unemployed youths in the Klottey Korle constituency, noting a high level of interest in dressmaking among them. He underscored the transformative potential of such training, emphasizing its capacity to alleviate unemployment woes and instill hope and direction in individuals.

Concerns regarding the lengthy three-year training duration raised by dressmakers were addressed by Mr. Nortey, who proposed a streamlined six-month training period. He pledged to facilitate dialogues between dressmakers and trainees to reach a mutual agreement on the optimal training duration.

The gathering also served as a platform for Mr. Nortey to engage with workers from various informal sectors, including barbers, beauticians, and hairdressers, acknowledging their vital contributions to the Klottey Korle constituency.

In attendance was Mr. James Nii Agyei Tawiah, the Municipal Chief Executive for the Klottey Korle Assembly, who expressed solidarity with the initiative and assured participants of the municipality’s unwavering support for the informal business sector within its jurisdiction.
