Speaking about the  product, Ing. Prof. Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw, Vice Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University, noted that due to the global fallouts of the COVID-19 outbreak, it was necessary for the University to put measures in place to help address shortages and supply chain disruptions.
“One of the global fall-outs of the recent outbreak has been the supply chain disruptions of various commodities that are relevant to controlling the outbreak. “These disruptions have either been through panic buying or genuine shortages and this has been global; Ghana has not been left out in this.
“It is with the sense of national pride and patriotism that University is distributing to residents, over two thousand pieces of hand sanitizers which are of the highest quality in line of ensuring activities against the spread of coronavirus,” he stated.
He said, the development was due to the challenges visited on the world by the pandemic.
For Ing. Prof. Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw, government should find a means of supporting and encouraging institutions to engage in locally made products in this trying time, by way of readying towards a possible lockdown.

Sandra Oppong Tawiah, the SRC Women’s Commissioner, said the first batch of over two-thousand pieces of KsTU Antimicrobial Sanitizers produced by the University was distributed amongst residents for free.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has called on retired health professionals and other research agencies, to put in place various activities that will ensure the issue of shortages and supply chain disruptions are addressed.
