Suame Constituency Executives and Electoral Area Coordinators of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have declared their undivided support for their legislator and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, to go unopposed in the April 2020 Constituency primaries.
According to the Delegates, the Majority Leader of Ghana’s Parliament deserves not to be contested due to his role in parliament.
Speaking at a dinner organized by Hon Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the Constituency Women’s Organizer, Abigail Osei Tawiah, stressed the need for the Lawmaker to go unopposed.
She noted that the party needs Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu in parliament due to his leadership role and experience.
According to her, the Majority Leader is one of the best legislators therefore should be given the opportunity to nurture others to enhance competence in legislation.
On his part, the Constituency Chairman, Bright Osei Agyemang, was happy at the collective decision to protect the MP from being contested during this year’s parliamentary primaries to be conducted by the party.
Mr Osei Agyemang noted that polling station executives should ensure that Majority Leader goes unopposed.
According to him, both national and Regional executives of the party support the move to protect the seat of the Majority Leader.
Mr Osei Agyemang therefore asked members of the party to support the bid of the Majority Leader for another four years for a successful drive of parliamentary proceedings.
The Bremang East Electoral Area Coordinator Mr Akwasi Mensah disclosed that out of the thousand delegates, only 20 are praying for others to contest the Majority Leader.
Mr Mensah therefore advised such persons to support the decision for the MP to go unopposed adding any attempt to contest him will be waste of money and time since such aspirants will automatically lose the election.
This is the second constituency in the Ashanti Region in which delegates have declared their support for the incumbent Lawmakers.
The first, was in the Manhyia South Constituency for Dr Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, and now Kyei Mensah Bonsu.
