An Accra based nongovernmental organization (NGO), Sports for Hope and Development Foundation (SHDF), has, as part of its objectives, fed, screened and provided medication to over 1000 indigent children in Ankaful-fie and Ankafu areas with rice, fruit drinks and clothes, recently.

The Executive Director of the organization, Mr Musa Jalibah Junior, while speaking with newsmen, said, that organization is aimed at sharing with the poor and needy in society, adding that it is an initiative that caters for the need of children.

According to him, the group is committed to empowering communities round Ghana in the areas of health, education, advocacy and livelihood, among others. “This particular program was funded by members of the foundation’s family and friends; we are doing this with the sense of love as we know many children today are not privileged to have three square meals a day”.

‘We intend to extend our boundaries by embarking on entrepreneurship and skills training programme to empower the youth for their livelihood’.

‘It’s our desire to assist children of school going age by providing them with school uniforms, stationary and other vital materials to help them stay in school’. Jalibah disclosed.

The Founder of the group, Musa, pointed out that the aim is to affect lives of people, which is an important thing in humanity, adding that they have come to share moment and time with children in the community. Residents of these areas, who spoke during the program, lauded the efforts of the group, describing it as a welcome development. The Assembly Man of the area, George……, said “We are very grateful to the NGO for feeding children in the community and putting smiles on their faces.

He called on individuals, churches and corporate bodies to be more people oriented to alleviate the suffering of people; he further stated that government is distant from the people, which unfortunately, has led to hunger in the land.
