The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed there will be no military personnel at polling stations during the upcoming elections.
In a statement released by Brigadier General Eric Aggrey Quashie, Director General of the Department of Public Affairs, GAF outlined that its role will be limited to standby support, with the primary responsibility for maintaining election security resting with the Ghana Police Service (GPS).
The military emphasized that any uniformed personnel at polling stations would only be deployed at the request of the GPS. This collaborative approach, GAF stated, aims to ensure that the elections proceed peacefully while maintaining law and order throughout the process.
GAF also issued a warning to the public to be vigilant against individuals impersonating soldiers. The public is urged to report any such impersonation to the nearest police station or through the GPS’s toll-free numbers: 18555 or 0800 311 311 for swift action.
The Armed Forces stressed the importance of public cooperation with security personnel to ensure a smooth and peaceful election day.
