New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, has seen the true face of Ghana’s healthcare system after spending weeks at Komfo Anokye Hospital. The once vocal defender of the nation’s health services now has a fresh perspective after his own stint as a patient.

Ahiagbah, who has always been quick to praise the NPP’s impact on Ghana’s healthcare, found himself on the receiving end of it following an unfortunate accident. After weeks of treatment, he took to social media platform X to share his relief at being discharged, although he admitted he’s still got a few hurdles to overcome before he’s fully back on his feet.

“I am out of the hospital today with a few more knots to untie, but I am back on my feet again,” Ahiagbah wrote, signaling his gradual recovery.

This experience has given the NPP figurehead a new appreciation for the healthcare system he’s long championed. Before his hospital stay, Ahiagbah was a staunch supporter of the NPP’s handling of healthcare, proudly declaring it the best thing to have happened to Ghana. Now, with firsthand experience of the system’s strengths and weaknesses, it remains to be seen whether his views will shift or if he’ll continue his unwavering support.

For now, Ahiagbah is focusing on his recovery, but his hospital experience is sure to leave a lasting impact on his outlook.
